The 14th edition of the Detours festival is drawing to a close, and the city’s cobblestones are still smoking…

The outcome of the Detours Festival 2023 is extremely positive.
The streets of Brussels carried artists from all horizons, from Latin America (Brazil, Costa Rica, Argentina), Africa (Congo/Rwanda) and Palestine.

The “Detours Cyphers” took place all summer long on Mont des Arts and at Bourse, as well as touring in Namur and Liège. These events fully met their attendance targets, increasing the Detours’ influence.

The “Detours Quartiers” enabled us to get closer to our audiences and to offer a privileged meeting space with Detours Cyphers’ champions: workshops, performances and exchanges.

The “Work in Progress” evenings revealed the emergence of creative artists with highly singular views of our realities. We welcomed 10 urban dance proposals (including 5 by artists from the FWB) that won over the public and our partners.

The creation evenings gave us the opportunity to support the winners of our previous WIP editions at the Raffinerie/Charleroi-Danse (JillZ) and at the Centre Culturel Bruegel (Solal Mariotte, Labo 393).

The “Urban Dance Caravan” was the apotheosis of the year, with our dancers from 4 corners of the world taking the audience on a journey of discovery.

The final saw the consecration of Abril Nadal (Argentina), an outstanding dancer who took part in many of our
who took part in many of our selections and was finally able to taste supreme victory, offering us a lesson in adversity!

The 2024 edition is just around the corner, and we’ve got some great surprises in store for you!

Detours Cyphers

DETOURS CYPHERS

The creation festival organized at the end of September is preceded, since 2015, by the Detours Cyphers which take place every Wednesday of July, August and September in the center of Brussels and in various cities of Wallonia.

DETOURS QUARTIERS

The Detours Quartiers allows us to reach a public who is less aware of artistic creations. Last year, we invited the champions of the Detours to lead workshops directly to the residents of these neighborhoods.

Urban dance Caravan

URBAN DANCE CARAVAN

Conceived and (co) created with students in scenography from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts Visuels – La Cambre, Brussels2030 and the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles, the Urban Dance Caravan is a huge urban dance movement that crosses the city center, from square to square, to lead us to the heart of the Théâtre National.

Work in progress

Through the Work in Progress program, the Detours Festival supports the professionalization of urban choreographers from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and other countries. These shared stage evenings give young hip-hop choreographers access to the cultural spheres by presenting their works in progress.

Creative evenings

The program mainly includes the creations that won a prize at the previous year’s WIP. In 2022, the premiere of “La Cage” (Faraja Batumike) took place at the Raffinerie / Charleroi Danse.
